We are proud to announce that Elkhorn Middle School Family Resource and Youth Service Center (FRYSC) Coordinator Alexie Brough received the Kentucky School Counseling Association’s (KSCA) Angela Wilkins Helping Hand Award. The honor recognizes an individual outside the counseling profession who goes above and beyond to support school counselors and student mental health.

Ms. Brough serves sixth- through eighth-grade students. She has been in education for three years, serving students at Elkhorn Middle School throughout that time. Each year, she aligns the FRYSC’s Programming Plan with school counseling goals to support the whole child. Her key contributions include the following:
- Securing the $3,000 Brothers-Run Grant for two consecutive years to fully fund the Sources of Strength suicide prevention program.
- Delivers critical guidance and wellness initiatives, including Too Good for Drugs lessons, 6th-grade “Minute Meetings,” small-group support, trauma-informed care, and the “How to Be a Gentleman” club in partnership with the School Resource Officer.
- Coordinates wraparound services for families, including the Big Smiles Dental Program, holiday assistance, and regular Lunch Bunch support groups.

Elkhorn Middle School Principal Audra Hoofnagle commended Ms. Brough for her passion for her students and her drive to make a positive difference.

“Ms. Brough is driven, proactive, compassionate, and a catalyst for positive change that serves as a seamless extension of the school counseling team,” said Audra Hoofnagle, Elkhorn Middle School Principal. “Her leadership and holistic approach to student wellness ensures that students receive comprehensive support across all aspects of their lives.”

“Receiving the Angela Wilkins Helping Hand Award is such an incredible honor. I was filled with excitement and smiling from ear to ear,” said Alexie Brough, FRYSC Coordinator. “This award is a reminder that even the smallest acts can make a lasting difference, and I am so excited and thankful to continue doing what I love every day.”

Good morning, Franklin County! It is officially the first day of school, and we can't wait to see you in our buildings — a few things to note as you prepare to leave this morning.
- If you have a child on the bus, download the Stopfinder app. This provides alerts and updated information regarding bus routes in live time. The link provides the tentative time the bus will be at your pickup/dropoff location. Be aware that the time may be delayed as we navigate the first day. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1W9GT0qGlkADDlZOrafpbf-mFvI5jJi69hThZM1IWbso/edit?gid=863096298#gid=863096298

- If you are dropping off your child at school, have patience and stay alert as we will have kids getting out of their vehicles. We also ask that you keep the line moving so we can ensure all of our kids get into the building on time.

- School Menus can be found here: https://menus.healthepro.com/organizations/1567/

If you have any questions, please reach out to your school directly. We've been waiting all summer for this day, and we are #Focused and ready for you. Have a fantastic year, Franklin County!
