It’s National Arts in Education Week, and today, we’re shining a spotlight on our band and choir students at Elkhorn Middle School! For some middle schoolers, this may be their first time taking a band or choir class, but the power of music is already strong, and they are learning quickly. Great work, Elks! We look forward to seeing your first concert 🎷🎶🎤

In recognition of National Arts in Education Week, we are shining a spotlight on the new Media Arts program at the Career and Technical Center. The program features two courses designed to prepare students for creative and technical careers. In Introduction to Media, students will dive into the world of media to learn and create across multiple disciplines, exploring photography and graphic design, creating a television show, and producing a short film. In Video Studio Fundamentals, a dual-credit course offered through Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC), students dive into the world of filmmaking by writing scripts and producing music videos, shorts films, and commercials.
“I am very excited to start the Media Arts program at Franklin County’s Career and Technical Center,” said Nicholas Collier, Media Arts Instructor. “My goal is that our students can walk across the stage and right on to a set without hesitation.”
FCCTC created a production space equipped with a dedicated television studio, podcasting area, editing computer lab, and field gear including cameras, gimbals, lighting, and microphones. The program also features a media truck equipped for live broadcasting.
In the upcoming year, FCCTC will be collaborating with the Frankfort Plant Board to offer students a unique broadcast experience. The Plant Board will designate a local access channel specifically for Franklin County Schools, and students in the Media Arts program will create, produce, and manage the content aired across Frankfort. Keep following us for an official launch date!

Unlocking new stories from old pages 🖤
To kickoff #ArtsInEducationWeek, we are sharing our students from The Academy visiting Yes Arts to experiment with blackout poetry. By circling words that resonated with them and blacking out the rest, they transformed donated books into an original poem. Thank you, Yes Arts, for giving our student a space to create and find their voices!
