Franklin County Schools (FCS), in partnership with the Frankfort Area Chamber of Commerce, is proud to offer the L.A.S.E.R. program to current high school seniors. L.A.S.E.R. stands for Leadership, Action, Skills, and Employment Readiness. Its initiative is to help seniors at Western Hills High School and Franklin County High School network with local leaders and businesses about career opportunities after graduation.

Students in the L.A.S.E.R. program conduct workplace site visits, receive hands-on experience, participate in mock interviews, and more to prepare them for a career after high school. Additionally, participating business partners commit to offering program graduates a guaranteed job interview, creating a direct talent pipeline for the Frankfort community.

Since the L.A.S.E.R. program launched earlier this month, students have already engaged in workplace site visits at Rebecca Ruth Candy Factory, Pizza Inn, and the Frankfort Plant Board.

“LASER is about helping students make the connection between what they’re learning today and what will be expected of them in the workplace tomorrow. Through this partnership with Expree Credit Union & Franklin County Schools, we’re able to bring students together with local business and community leaders to build skills like communication, accountability, confidence, and essential skills employers tell us they need,” said Tish Shade, President/CEO, Frankfort Area Chamber of Commerce. “At the same time, students are building relationships and discovering career opportunities right here in our community. The Frankfort Area Chamber is incredibly proud of this partnership and excited to see L.A.S.E.R. continue to grow and build our future workforce.”

“Our promise at Franklin County Schools is that every student succeeds, and this is another way we are keeping our promise,” said Superintendent Mark Kopp. “Giving our students this opportunity through the L.A.S.E.R. program to explore all options after high school allows them to make decisions that are best for them and their future.”

This year, the L.A.S.E.R. program has 18 students. In May, FCS and the Frankfort Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a graduation ceremony for the students.
