Graphic: FCHS Boys Golfers Quality for KHSAA State Tournament

Fresh off their Central Kentucky Bluegrass Conference (CKBC) North Division Championship, members of the Franklin County High School (FCHS) Boys Golf Team qualified for the KHSAA state tournament.

Junior Myles Williams carded a 1-over-par 73 to secure a spot in the KHSAA State Tournament. Williams battled back on his final hole to sink an eagle and lock in his qualification as one of the ten individual state qualifiers from the region.

Williams now advances to the first round of the state tournament, which begins September 28, at StoneCrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg. The competition includes eight teams and 40 individual qualifiers spanning Regions 9 through 12.

Junior Noah Casey also delivered a standout regional performance, firing a 2-over-par 74. Casey battled through a tense four-player playoff for the final two state slots and the alternate position. He claimed the Regional Alternate spot, putting him next in line to compete at StoneCrest should a Region 9 individual qualifier be unable to play.

The team was named Central Kentucky Bluegrass Conference (CKBC) North Division Champions. The Flyers ended the regular season with a 6-1 division record. This accomplishment marks a milestone for the boys golf team, as it’s the first regular season division title since 2017. The team held the top spot from 2014-2017.

Throughout the regular season, the team competes in 18-hole tournaments, but division play features seven 9-hole matches against Anderson County, Frankfort Independent, Great Crossing, Sayre, Scott County, Shelby County, and Western Hills High Schools. Five players compete in each match, with the top four scores combining for the team total.

FCHS led the division with the lowest average 9-hole match score at 154.33, a full four strokes ahead of the runner-up.
