Leaders stand in front of the soup kitchen holding the walk of awareness sign.

Franklin County Career and Technical Center teacher Mike Lee is known not only for his dedication in the classroom, but also for his leadership in the wider community. Beyond teaching, Lee serves as the chair of the Access Soup Kitchen board, where he helps guide programs that provide food and support to those in need across Franklin County.

One of the most visible ways Lee gives back is through the annual Walk of Awareness, a community event designed to raise both funds and understanding about hunger and homelessness. Each year, he plays a key role in planning and running the walk, ensuring that it brings together students, families, and local residents in a spirit of unity and service.

This year’s Walk of Awareness was held on Thanksgiving Day, a fitting reminder of gratitude and generosity. The event drew strong participation and resulted in thousands of dollars raised to support the soup kitchen’s mission. Those funds will go directly toward providing meals and resources for individuals and families who rely on the kitchen during difficult times.

Lee’s commitment reflects the values of Franklin County Schools: service, compassion, and community partnership. His work demonstrates how educators can extend their impact far beyond the classroom, inspiring students and colleagues alike to see civic engagement as part of lifelong learning.

As both a teacher and board chair, Mike Lee embodies the spirit of #OneTeamFCS—building bridges between education and community service, and reminding us all that awareness is the first step toward meaningful change. Lee also is the FCHS Young Republicans Sponsor teacher. Thank you for all that you do, Mr. Lee.
