FRANKFORT, KY, November 6th, 2025 – Westridge Elementary School recently hosted its 5th Annual First Responders Breakfast, an overwhelmingly positive event aimed at strengthening the bond between students and the community heroes of the Frankfort Police Department (FPD) and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

The yearly celebration is dedicated to fostering positive interactions between students and the men and women who serve the community every day.
"The main goal for the breakfast is for students to have positive experiences with our community helpers," explained Matt Johnson of the FRSYC. "Many times, the first interaction that our students have with first responders is negative. Our annual breakfast allows students to see first responders in a positive way and allows our first responders to get to know our students. The relationships that develop between our students and our community can be life-changing."

Community and School Values in Action
The breakfast serves as a practical demonstration of the school’s core values, known as the Westridge Alpha Code.
"This event focuses on the importance of working together and staying safe," Johnson noted. "Our first responders are incredible models of working together to keep people safe, being responsible in their daily tasks, and work together for the benefit of the community. Our students get to see the Alpha Code lived out practically."
First responders, who deal with challenging situations daily, shared that the event provides a much-needed morale boost. Staff were told how appreciative the heroes were for the opportunity to have a positive interaction with students, often providing a positive start or end to their shifts.
A Timberwolves Team Effort
The event was a true "Timberwolves" collaboration:
The Family Resource Center sponsored all the food and prep.
Decorations were provided by students in the Wolves Den program.
The Westridge Run Club provided fresh baked goods and special stuffed animals for responders to keep in their vehicles and offer comfort to children they may encounter on difficult calls.
Principal’s Heartfelt Thank You
Westridge Principal Christy Drury shared her gratitude for the presence and service of the honored guests.
"As the principal, I would like to thank all of the first responders for their unwavering dedication to keeping our community safe and for joining us at the First Responders Breakfast," said Principal Drury. "Your presence made the event even more special, and it was wonderful to connect and show our appreciation for all that you do. Thank you for taking the time to come and visit with our students. We are grateful for your commitment and look forward to supporting you in the future!"

Matt Johnson, thank you for all that you do for our kids.
