After more than two decades of dedicated service, Julia Colston is retiring from her role as receptionist at Franklin County Schools— a position she held with unmatched grace, warmth, and professionalism. For over 20 years, Julia has been the welcoming voice and smiling face that greeted students, families, staff, and visitors alike. Her presence at the front desk was more than a job; it was a daily act of kindness and connection.
If you’ve ever called our Central Office and heard, “Franklin County Schools”— that would have been our Julia! Her voice was often the first impression of our district, and she made sure it was always a kind one.
Throughout her tenure, Julia served alongside multiple superintendents, adapting seamlessly to change while remaining a steady, reassuring presence for all who entered the district office. Her institutional knowledge, calm demeanor, and genuine care for others made her indispensable— not just as a colleague, but as a friend.
Superintendent Mark Kopp reflected on her impact:
“Julia has been the face of our district for so many years. While it's hard to see her go, we're incredibly grateful for her service and wish her all the best in retirement.”
Julia’s legacy is woven into the fabric of Franklin County Schools. From the way she answered the phone with a cheerful “Good morning!” to the way she remembered birthdays, comforted nervous parents, and kept things running smoothly behind the scenes — her contributions were countless, and her spirit unforgettable.
Rebecca Roberts captured it best:
“For years to come, we'll find ourselves saying, 'Remember how Julia always used to...?’”
And Julia herself shared:
“I’m honored to have served Franklin County, and I will miss you all tremendously.”
Whether it was her quick wit, her gentle reminders, or the way she could calm a chaotic morning with a single smile, Julia leaves behind a legacy of kindness and connection that will echo through our Central Office and district for years to come.
Congratulations, Julia. Although we will miss you, we're so happy for you.
