Westridge Run Club Members "Chase" Their Goals at Annual Black Cat Race
FRANKFORT, KY – October 24th, 2025 – The spirit of community, wellness, and giving was on full display as members of the Westridge Run Club participated in the annual Black Cat Chase 3K, marking the conclusion of their successful fall season. The long-standing Westridge tradition of promoting healthy habits culminated in the Halloween-themed race, where students put their goal-setting and uplifting principles into action.
The Westridge Run Club is a cornerstone of the school's commitment to student development, emphasizing physical health and character. The program focuses on teaching students the importance of setting goals, developing healthy habits through walking and running, and the value of uplifting others. With both a fall and a spring session, the club inspires students to adopt a healthy activity that can last a lifetime, with each season ending in participation in a local race.
This year, the run club paired their physical challenge with a significant community service initiative. The students are enthusiastically supporting the local First Responders Breakfast by providing homemade baked goods and are collecting stuffed animals for first responders to use when children are involved in emergency situations. This project highlights the club’s core value of service and community support.
The Black Cat Chase, a Frankfort tradition for over three decades, provided the perfect setting for the students' culminating event. The race, which benefits the YMCA's Annual Impact Campaign to support local children and families in financial need, is known for its festive atmosphere, with runners and walkers often donning creative Halloween costumes as they navigate the downtown Frankfort course.
One of the run club’s dedicated leaders praised the students' commitment and spirit. “I love to see students challenging themselves and cheering for each other,” sponsor and school counselor Britney Spicer said. “When they reach their running goals, they are so proud of themselves, and I’m so proud of them too.” The club’s success is a testament to school-wide effort: “We couldn’t do this club without the support of staff members, they see the value in developing students in a healthy activity that can last a lifetime.”
The entire Westridge Run Club roster successfully completed the Black Cat Chase, demonstrating their dedication and training over the season. Their collective achievement is an inspiration to the entire district community. Westridge now looks forward to launching its spring run club session, continuing its tradition of fitness, fellowship, and service.
