FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Westridge Elementary First Graders Celebrate Global Storytelling with “Different Lands, Similar Stories” Showcase

Westridge Elementary School’s first grade students brought stories to life this morning with an interactive showcase titled “Different Lands, Similar Stories”, an instructional event for their Language Arts unit 3. The celebration transformed the school’s front hallway into a vibrant display of storytelling, culture, and creativity. It was wonderful watching their learning come to life!

As part of their exploration of global folktales and fables, students worked in pairs to present handmade creations and thoughtful reflections that highlighted characters, settings, and themes from around the world. The event emphasized the universal values found in storytelling- connection, courage, and imagination- across diverse cultures and traditions.

“It’s so exciting to see how eager our students are to share what they’ve learned in class,” said Westridge Elementary Principal Christy Drury. “Their enthusiasm for reading shines through, and this event is a perfect example of that engagement.”

The event was attended by staff, families, and district representatives. A special thank you to Ms. Blanton for the invite and to the first grade team whose leadership and warmth helped bring the celebration to life. Guests were treated to a firsthand look at the magic of reading through the eyes of young learners.

Franklin County Schools applauds the creativity, collaboration, and curiosity of Westridge’s first grade team and students. Their work reflects the district’s commitment to fostering global awareness, literacy, and joyful learning.
