Western Hills High School is proud to announce that seniors Weston Lee and Manas Garla have been named National Merit Semifinalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. This prestigious recognition places them among the top academic performers in the nation, selected from over 1.3 million students who entered the competition by taking the PSAT/NMSQT.
Weston and Manas now join an elite group of scholars who represent the highest scorers in Kentucky. Their achievement reflects not only personal dedication and intellectual excellence, but also the supportive learning environment cultivated at Western Hills.
Weston Lee is celebrated for his academic rigor and leadership within the school community. Manas Garla, in addition to his academic success, was recently reappointed to the Kentucky Department of Education’s Commissioner’s Student Advisory Council, where he helps shape statewide education policy.
“These students exemplify the tradition of success at our school” said Dr. Ryan King, WHHS principal. “We are incredibly proud of Weston and Manas for representing Western Hills with distinction.”
As semifinalists, both students will now submit scholarship applications detailing their academic records, extracurricular achievements, and personal essays. Finalists will be announced in early 2025, with winners receiving part of the $28 million in scholarships awarded nationwide.
