Frankfort, KY – July 29, 2025 – Elkhorn Middle School Principal Audra Hoofnagle has been selected to join the prestigious Leading Healthy Schools Cohort, a professional development program offered by SHAPE America – the Society of Health and Physical Educators.

The Leading Healthy Schools Cohort brings together school leaders from across the nation to create healthier learning environments for students. Participants engage in expert-led training focused on enhancing student well-being through nutrition, physical activity, mental health supports, and comprehensive wellness strategies.

This recognition aligns directly with Elkhorn Middle School’s mission: “Elkhorn Middle School is committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that enables every student to thrive academically, emotionally, socially, and physically.”

“I am honored to represent Elkhorn Middle School in this national initiative,” said Hoofnagle. “Our students thrive when their physical and mental health needs are supported. This opportunity will equip us with new tools and strategies to ensure every student succeeds in all areas of their development.”

As part of the cohort, Hoofnagle will collaborate with school leaders across the country to implement evidence-based practices that foster student health, improve academic performance, and build sustainable wellness initiatives at Elkhorn Middle School.

The Leading Healthy Schools Cohort is part of SHAPE America’s mission to advance professional practice and promote research in health and physical education, ultimately ensuring all children have the opportunity to lead healthy, active lives.
