Kristi Wilkerson

Frankfort, KY — Kristi Wilkerson, beloved music teacher at Peaks Mill Elementary, has been named the 2025 recipient of the prestigious McConnell Foundation Award — an honor recognizing educators in Frankfort and Franklin County who go above and beyond in their service to students, schools, and the community.

Wilkerson, known for her passion for music education and her ability to inspire students of all backgrounds, was selected for her exemplary leadership, dedication, and commitment to “going the extra mile.” As a full-time teacher, she embodies the values the McConnell Foundation seeks to honor: respect for students and colleagues, community involvement, and a deep love for teaching.

The McConnell Foundation Award, established in 2000 in memory of John Ed McConnell — an Elkhorn High School graduate and Peaks Mill native — has awarded over $270,000 to more than 50 outstanding educators. In addition to a written application, nominees must complete a questionnaire and present a thoughtful analysis of a major issue in education, including its causes, effects, and potential solutions.

Wilkerson’s recognition adds to the proud legacy of Peaks Mill Elementary and highlights the vital role of music education in shaping young minds. Her classroom is known for being a joyful, inclusive space where students are encouraged to express themselves and grow through music.

Nomination forms for future awards can be obtained from school principals or found on the McConnell Foundation – The Extra Mile Award Facebook page.

Congratulations to Kristi Wilkerson on this well-deserved honor!
