Barton's Banter

Dear ELV Parents/Guardians,

Good Afternoon!  On October 29 the PTO will be hosting our Fall Festival here at ELV.  All events (except the book fair) will be held outdoors to help keep everyone safe.  We will have several booths, as well as a Food Truck (The Flying Waffle) that will be set up in the front of the school so families can play games, get their face painted, eat and enjoy an evening of fun at ELV!  In addition, the Book Fair will be open for all those wishing to purchase some books.  This will be the last night for the Book Fair so please do not miss out on the opportunity to shop with us!

Trunk or Treat:

We will also be having a trunk or treat event in the back of our school.  Families are welcome to drive around or walk through and participate in our trunk or treat event.  Teachers and staff will be decorating cars and they are looking forward to seeing our families so they can provide them with a little Halloween Treat!  We need your help in order to make this happen.  PTO is asking for candy donations to help our teachers during the trunk or treat event.  Donations can be sent to the school directly.  Please make sure to label the candy “fall festival”.  PTO very much appreciates anything you are willing to donate.

Halloween Costumes at School:

We are going to allow Halloween costumes to be worn this year.  Students may dress up in their costumes on October 29 and wear them to school.  There are a couple of guidelines that we ask you to follow when sending your child to school with a halloween costume on.

  • No halloween masks and/or makeup, head coverings etc - Nothing that can cover the face (except approved COVID masks).  Nothing above the neck area that is halloween related.

  • Students who choose to wear their costume to school will be expected to keep the costume on all day.  Please DO NOT send extra clothes for your child to change into.  We are sorry but we cannot spend our day switching in and out of costumes.

  • Please wear appropriate shoes to school with their costume.  If the costume calls for high heels or special boots etc. please refrain your child from wearing those during school hours.  It gets to be a long day in heels and boots for our little students.  Again, we cannot police taking shoes on and off all day long.

  • Please refrain from costumes that may depict blood, death, horror movies or anything related to such events.  We ask that costumes at school be appropriate for the age group we serve.  Toy Story, princesses, sports players etc are appropriate.  If you have questions about a specific costume please reach out to Mr. Barton.  If a costume is deemed inappropriate parents will be notified to come pick up their child or bring a change of clothes.

We encourage all students and families to wear their FULL costumes to our fall festival event on the night of October 29!!

Halloween Classroom Parties:

We will be allowing classroom parties to take place this year.  However, no volunteers or parents will be allowed to attend.  Please make sure any food that is brought in for classroom parties is prepackaged or store bought.  We cannot allow anyone to make food from home and bring it in.  I know part of halloween is making the cute little treats but in order to keep everyone safe it is imperative that we operate like this.  Please make sure to check with your classroom teacher about any potential allergies that could exist.  Again, we want to keep everyone as safe as possible.  Thank you and we look forward to seeing everyone on October 29!
