Whitney Allison named principal at Bondurant Middle School

Franklin County Schools Supt. Mark Kopp announced today that Whitney Allison, a longtime middle school educator and principal, has been selected as the new principal of Bondurant Middle School. The BMS school-based decision-making council (SBDM) unanimously selected Allison for the position following interviews with a number of highly qualified candidates.

A Frankfort resident, Allison has 19 years of experience as a middle school educator. She has been a middle school teacher and assistant principal, and she currently is the principal at Winburn Middle School in Fayette County. During her tenure at Winburn, she implemented an advanced placement program that, along with the school’s existing gifted magnet program, has achieved 100 percent college and career readiness in reading among the current class of 8th graders. Allison also led the school to a 50 percent reduction in discipline referrals while student enrollment has grown by 30 percent.

Kopp said of the selection, “I share the excitement of the Council with the selection of Whitney Allison.  Her experience, knowledge, and skillset make her a perfect fit for Bondurant Middle School.  We are eagerly looking forward to her starting in her new position on January 2, 2019.”

Allison said, “Middle school is my heart, my love. BMS reminds me of the school I started in my career in, as there are a lot of similarities between the two. As a resident of Frankfort, and as the parent of a BMS 6th-grader, this is a perfect fit. I want nothing more than to invest in a school in my home community.

“My top three priorities at BMS will be empowering students and staff to grow in a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and a commitment to relationships and putting families first,” she added. She also has actively sought to collaborate with a number of community organizations and the school’s parent-teacher-student organization (PTSO) to improve and capitalize on relationships between the two in order to provide stronger programs for Winburn students.

Allison holds a Bachelor of Arts from Midway University in middle school education, social studies and English/language arts. She earned her Rank I and Rank II certifications from Eastern Kentucky University. She taught at Woodford County Middle School (WCMS) from 2000 to 2007 and was promoted to assistant principal at WCMS in 2007. She left WCMS in 2012, when she was named principal of Winburn Middle.

Allison teaches a course at the University of Kentucky (UK) for aspiring middle school teachers and was recognized by her former middle school students in 2007 as the UK Teacher Who Made a Difference. She also was Woodford County Teacher of the Year in 2002.

Two of Allison’s children attend Franklin County Schools, while her youngest is not yet in school.
