The Franklin County Schools is offering a preschool screening for parents who would like to find out if their 3- or 4-year-old child(ren) is (are) eligible for free public preschool.

As part of its district-wide early childhood program, the Franklin County school district screens children to determine their eligibility for its preschool programs. Free screenings will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 at the Franklin County Schools office complex, 200 Kings Daughters Drive in Frankfort.

During the screenings, children will be evaluated in the areas of communication, pre-academic learning concepts and motor skills. They also will have their vision and hearing tested. The screening team uses the Development Indicators for the Assessment of Learning-Fourth Edition (DIAL-4) to gain an understanding of children's developmental skills. This is an assessment tool that is used by educators throughout the country.

Children are eligible for public preschool if:

• they are experiencing one or more delays in their development as determined by the screening; or

• they turned 4 years old by August 1, 2018 AND their household income is at or below 160 percent of the federal poverty level.

If you believe your child meets these criteria, or if you have questions about the screening process, please call Erin Harrell or Kim Smither at 502-695-6700. They will answer your questions and/or schedule a screening appointment for Jan. 11, 2019.
