The current CLE building was built in 1967 and was renovated in 1995. More than 5,000 students have graced the hallways and classrooms of the current building. The celebration is particularly noteworthy and is sure to be nostalgic for many alumni and former staff, since a new Collins Lane Elementary School is being built just yards away from the existing building. The new building is expected to open in time for the 2018-19 school year this fall.
Collins Lane owes its success over the years to high expectations for its students and its strong ties to the community it serves. The celebration will include a review of the school’s past 50 years and a look forward to its future in a new state-of-the-art building.
The entire community is invited to join in the celebration on Friday, April 20, 2018. A student assembly will begin at 1 p.m. and will feature student performances and a proclamation from Frankfort Mayor Bill May. Later that day, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., there will be an open house during which former principals and past and present staff will share their thoughts and memories. A group photo of past and present staff will be taken at 6:30 p.m.
To aid in the celebration, former staff, alumni and community members are being asked to send photos and short statements about their favorite CLE memory to:
