Statement regarding threats of violence today…
Like numerous school districts across the country, the Franklin County Schools today received several threats of violence.
The Franklin County Schools and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office take every threat seriously. We have investigated each of these threats and determined that at no point were any students in danger. To be clear, none of our schools have gone into lockdown mode, as there was no need to do so.
All of our schools have been advised to be extra-vigilant during this time, and we are working closely with the FCSO and other law enforcement agencies to identify, investigate and address any and all threats and concerns.
Let there be no question that we will identify those responsible for any threats against our schools and we will immediately move to expel any students who are involved. We also will prosecute those responsible to the fullest extent of the law.
I want to reassure parents that the safety of our students is our highest priority. We also want to remind parents that they need to have conversations with their students about the need to tell school officials about any threats rather than sharing about them on social media, which only leads to confusion and misplaced concern. We will fully investigate each and every threat that is reported to us.
