Dear Franklin County Schools Parents & Guardians:
This year, the Franklin County Schools may use Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) days if weather conditions require that school be cancelled. NTI days allow students to get credit for the days school is cancelled by completing assignments provided by their teachers. The primary benefit of this approach is that it reduces the likelihood that we will have to add make-up days at the end of the school year.
In the event school is cancelled, the first four cancellation days will be made up at later dates within our current school calendar, as noted in the table on the reverse side of this letter. The fifth through 14th cancelled days – if they occur - would be NTI days (up to 10 days).
Here is how we plan to implement this new program if school is cancelled for any reason:
1) We will notify you as early as possible of any decision to cancel school (via OneCall, the district website (www.franklin.kyschools.us), Facebook and Twitter (please follow @OneTeamFCS on both). Local news media will also be alerted.
a. The OneCall, Facebook, Twitter and our website will clearly state whether the day is an NTI day.
2) On NTI days, teachers will be available to answer questions or provide electronic assistance with assignments. You and/or your child can reach them between the hours of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Several employees will be available at the school during regular business hours.
a. If you do not have access to email or the internet, please contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible to arrange another means of communication in case an NTI is used.
3) Students should complete the work and turn it in the next day of school. Some assignments may allow for longer completion time (up to 5 days after returning from an NTI day).
Before winter break begins, teachers will provide students with packets and/or instructions on how to access packets via the internet. Students who do not have internet access at home will be provided hard copies of the packets. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher(s) or principal if you have questions. You may also contact central office at 502-695-6700.
