Three Students Selected for All-State Band

Congratulations to the following students who were selected for All-State Band after two grueling auditions.
  • Katherine Woolums - 1st chair flute in the symphonic band
  • Chandler Craine - 2nd chair bass clarinet in the symphonic band
  • Mindy Hatchell - 20th chair clarinet in the concert band  

They will attend the State KMEA Conference on February 7-10 and perform in concerts on the evening of February 10th.

WHHS Academic Team and Individuals Honored at CAL Banquet

The Commonwealth Academic League Banquet was held at the Frankfort Country Club on Monday, December 11th, honoring students from Anderson County, Franklin County, The Sayre School, Scott County, Shelby County, and Western Hills.  In its 31st year, the CAL is the oldest league in the state, and at the banquet the top teams and individuals from all six schools were recognized. In team awards based on cumulative written exams and quick recall points Western Hills High School earned first place in Math, Science, and Language Arts and second place in Arts and Humanities.

Art Club Paints Windows at the Downtown Frankfort Post Office

Next time you go to the main post office in downtown Frankfort, check out the holiday paintings on the front windows. Over the December 9 weekend, Art Club of Western Hills High School painted holiday decorations on all of the Post Office Windows, as a public service.

Academic Team Wins Commonwealth Academic League Tournament

Congratulations to all members of the WHHS Academic Team for taking FIRST PLACE in the Commonwealth Academic League Tournament. 

After a perfect season, Hills entered the two-night tournament as #1 seed with two rounds of play on December 4th. The championship match on December 5th came down to Franklin Co and Western Hills, with Hills coming out on top.  This is only the second time since at least 2001 that the Wolverines have gone undefeated in the CAL season AND the tournament.

WHHS Students Earn Top Three Places in FCHTTF Art Contest

Three Western Hills High School students won all three prizes in The Franklin County Human Trafficking Task Force Art Contest, Exhibited at “Completely Kentucky” in downtown Frankfort November 25th. The winners include: First Place: Hanna Curl, Grade 12, Second Place: Madison Carter, Grade 10, and Third Place: Destiny Reed, Grade 10. The purpose of the exhibit was to raise awareness of the many problems and injustices associated with Human Trafficking.
