FRC Posts Summer Newsletter!
The Joining Hands Family Resource has posted a Summer Newsletter full of great information about summer camps and activities to stimulate your children over the summer and keep that learning curve going. All Students Attending Hearn in 2015-2106 MUST Register in Advance!
Special Registration for Hearn students will be held at the school on July 13 (8:00am-4:00pm) and July 14 (10:00am-6:00pm). Please bring proof of residence with you (copy of a bill sent to your address, for example). All students must register each year, even if they attended last year.   
5th Graders Promoted to 6th Grade in Special Ceremony May 29
Hearn PTA sponsored a reception honoring our 2015 5th grade class. 5th Grade teachers, the art teacher, and the librarian presented awards of achievement. Mr. Kyle Sexton, former Hearn principal, gave a tribute to Searcy Wix, a student who would have graduated with this class, but who passed away last year. We send out best with you, 5th graders! Hornet Club Now Accepting Registration for Summer Program!
The Hornet Club is gearing up for their Summer Day Care Program featuring many fun activities for Hearn students throughout the Summer Break. The Program serves students from rising Hearn 1st graders through 5th graders who will attend middle school in fall 2015. Hearn Sweeps District Battle of the Books Competition!
Both 4th and 5th grade Superstar Teams came are 2015 Champions of Battle of the Books! They competed against the other 5 elementary schools in Franklin County as well as Second Street. 4th Graders were recognized earlier, so this picture is of the 5th Grade Team: Claire Moore (captain), Kemper Dotson, Collin Matthews, Colton Schul, Nickolas Kapustey, and Caleb Hack. They are coached by teacher, Sara Pope. Battle of the Books is a district-wide initiative that motivates students to read high quality, current children's literature. Paul Sawyier Public Library is a partner and has updated lists and copies of the books available as well. Battle of the Books continues in middle school. 
Hearn Scores BIG at Regional Governor's Cup!
Hearn Elementary Academic Team participated in Regional Governor's Cup, March 21 in Georgetown. Competing against school, both public and private from Franklin and Scott Counties, Hearn placed 3rd overall. Other results: Future Problem Solving Team (Claire, Kemper, Nicholas, Henry) 1st Place; Language Arts (Claire) 3rd place, (Kemper) 4th Place; Math (Nicholas) 3rd Place, Written Composition (Claire) 3rd Place.
 
Hearn Wins District Academic Team Competition!
On Feb. 28 Hearn Academic Team competed against 4 other area schools and came away the overall WINNER! Special teams: Future Problem Solving (Kemper, Nicholas, Henry, Claire) placed 1st; Quick Recall (Kemper, Maddox, Nicholas, Blaire, Henry, Caleb, and Ethan) placed 2nd. Individual Honors went to: Nicholas (5th in Math), Maddi (3rd in Science), Katherine, Maddi (5th, 4th in Social Studies), Kemper, Claire (1st, 2nd in Language Arts ), Blaire (3rd in Arts & Humanities), Claire, Maddi, Katherine (1st, 2nd, 3rd in English Composition). GO HORNETS!! GOOD LUCK IN REGIONS).
 
Hearn Takes 2nd Place in 5 K!
Hearn Elementary School won second place in the school challenge at the Pro-Active for Life 5K Race held in downtown Frankfort on Friday, April 17. By participating in the school challenge, we encourage Hearn faculty, staff and students to be physically fit.

Recycle Your Ink Cartridges and Cell Phones With Us!
Please send in used printer ink cartridges and old cell phones. There is a drop off box in front of the Cafeteria and in the Library. You may also send them to Ms. Burch (Office) or Ms. Nelson (Library). You'll be doing your part for the environment and Hearn will receive $$$ to benefit our students.
 
Save Those Pull Tabs!!
We are collecting the pull tabs from soda cans to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House. This is a place where families can stay for free when they must travel from their home to be with children who are in the hospital. This is another way our students can learn about helping others in our community.
