All for Books!
We have been be participating in All for Books this week (September 29th – October 3rd) in preparation for our book fair. Funds collected are being used to purchase books for our students and classrooms. Scholastic Book Fairs matches the money we collect with a book donation to one of three nonprofit organizations that gives families more access to books. The organizations are: the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, the National Center for Family Literacy, and Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. This is a 3-way win! The school will purchase books with the money collected for our students, the library will earn profit from the money collected, and students around the country will get books donated by Scholastic Book Fairs!!

Our Goal is to raise at least $500. We have done it before and we can do it again!
Classroom Competition:
Monday (September 29th) – Penny War
Tuesday (September 30th) – Nickel War
Wednesday (October 1st) – Dime War
Thursday (October 2nd) – Quarter War
Friday (October 3rd) – Dollar War

KinderCARD'n! Promoting Literacy with PSPL
Mrs. Whitworth from Paul Sawyier Public Library came to visit our Kindergarten classes today to share with them about a program called KinderCARD'n that encourages students to come to the library and get a library card.

Paul Sawyier Public Library is a great partner in promoting literacy and provides a wonderful place for students to continue their love of reading.

We encourage all of our students to visit the public library!

What I Need (WIN) TIME
We are very excited about some new work we are doing this year. By now, some of you have been hearing your student talk about WIN time.
WIN Time: What I Need (WIN) Time is a great part of our day where every student is getting to work with a caring adult for intervention or enrichment. We know this is so important that this time is established in the master schedule for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade to receive instruction that is aligned to their instructional level based on the MAP and other appropriate assessments. Students are in a group with other students close in ability level but may be from different grade levels for 45 minutes a day. Monday and Tuesday students receive reading instruction and on Wednesday and Thursday they receive math instruction. Students in WIN groups will work with their teachers to set specific instructional goals. (Fridays will still be devoted to Focus Fridays) Everyone’s progress is monitored. The students may be moved to a different group based on their performance as needed.
