Mrs. Colley's 5th Grade Class is Learning with Technology!
Mrs. Colley's 5th grade class has been exploring absolute location and geographic factors of the earth with Google Earth in addition to using iPads to learn more about some of our national parks. Her students are not only learning a lot but they are enjoying the experience as well.
KinderCARD'n! Promoting Literacy with PSPL
Mrs. Whitworth from Paul Sawyier Public Library came to visit our Kindergarten classes today to share with them about a program called KinderCARD'n that encourages students to come to the library and get a library card.

Paul Sawyier Public Library is a great partner in promoting literacy and provides a wonderful place for students to continue their love of reading.

We encourage all of our students to visit the public library!

What I Need (WIN) TIME
We are very excited about some new work we are doing this year. By now, some of you have been hearing your student talk about WIN time.
WIN Time: What I Need (WIN) Time is a great part of our day where every student is getting to work with a caring adult for intervention or enrichment. We know this is so important that this time is established in the master schedule for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade to receive instruction that is aligned to their instructional level based on the MAP and other appropriate assessments. Students are in a group with other students close in ability level but may be from different grade levels for 45 minutes a day. Monday and Tuesday students receive reading instruction and on Wednesday and Thursday they receive math instruction. Students in WIN groups will work with their teachers to set specific instructional goals. (Fridays will still be devoted to Focus Fridays) Everyone’s progress is monitored. The students may be moved to a different group based on their performance as needed.
Franklin County Schools Attendance Update
We have updated our attendance policy and procedures.
A copy of the new policy is located on the district webpage on the Parents page.
Attendance Policy
Medical Excuse Form

You may also access the new policy in the student’s CODE of ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR HANDBOOK (which was given to every student in our school system.)
Together, we can work to improve student achievement and reduce truancy in Franklin County.

Car Rider Safety Concerns
BPS families who bring your children to school in the mornings-  We need your help! We’ve been asked by WHHS to see if we can solve the following safety issues, (I know we can!):

1. Please do not block the entrance to the WHHS parent/visitor drive.

2. Please be sure to stop before you drive straight across from Bridgeport through the WHHS drive to drop off your “big kids”

3. Please do not drive across and up the WHHS front drive as a way to beat the traffic @ the entry by exiting back out onto Doctor’s Drive there if you are not dropping off WHHS kids. They are sharing that folks who are doing this are moving way too rapidly. This is especially concerning since student drivers have to exit their parents’ vehicles on the same side as where these folks are cutting through.

Smart Snack Calculator

Are your kids eating SMART Snacks?
We are working hard to create a healthier environment for our school. Please send healthful snacks to school with your child. We have taken the guessing game out of it for you. Use the smart snack calculator to see how your child's snack measures up!
