BPE Celebrates African American Heritage Month!
Please take a look at our photo gallery slide show above to see all of the wonderful art work that has been turned in Mrs. McCoy and Mrs. Huff by Bridgeport students to celebrate African American Heritage month. Feel free to visit our library to take a closer look at our 3-D pieces and the book display created for both students and staff to celebrate African American Heritage through literature. 2-D pieces are posted in the hallway. We are still accepting art work if you and your family would like to create something to be displayed this month. Thank you to all of our families that participated.

BPE Mock Newbery and Mock Caldecott Clubs Visit PSPL
On January 11th, Bridgeport Elementary's Mock Newbery and Mock Caldecott Clubs traveled with Mrs. McCoy to Paul Sawyier Public Library to see ALA's Youth Media Award Presentation webcast. These children discussed with students around the district the 2015 books they had read and chosen as their “award winners”. Students that participated in these programs worked hard and read many books. We are proud of all of their hard work and hope that all Bridgeport students continue to enjoy great new literature as they learn and grow.

Aathman B. Wins BPE's Spelling Bee!
Bridgeport Elementary hosted their annual school wide Scripps Spelling Bee in January. Each homeroom in grades 1-5 sent a classroom winner to compete. Aathman B. was named the winner of this school spelling bee and Loukya A. was named the runner-up. Congratulations to these two awesome spellers! Aathman will go on to compete in the Regional Scripps Spelling Bee at the University of Kentucky on March 19th.
Adopt a Sandy for Annie Jr. BPE's Spring Musical!
To fund the spring musical, Annie Jr. the music program at Bridgeport is selling stuffed Sandys! Your student can "adopt" their very own Sandy dog, just like Annie in the show. The dogs are 6" tall, with a red ribbon around it's neck, and an embroidered sun to remind us when we're having a bad day, that "the sun will come out tomorrow"! Dogs sell for $5 a piece, and the money goes towards costumes and sets for our spring musical. Payments can be made in cash or check (made out to Bridgeport Elementary; "music" in the memo line), and they can be taken home that day! They are here, just waiting to be adopted into a loving home.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask Mrs. Moore our music teacher.
