BPS Tiger Times 10/2
Hi BPS families!
We just had another great Student of the Month Assembly-congrats to the students and their families who were chosen by their teacher for this honor for the month! The WHHS football team were our "entertainment" today! We always enjoy and appreciate them coming and sharing how important school is to them too! Thanks guys! It's great to see so many of our former students!
Also yesterday our school's KPREP test scores were released (individual student score info for parents has not come yet-it will be sent home when it does!) We were pleased that we did make lots of great progress and congratulate our students and staff on their accomplishments. KPREP is the state testing our 3-5th graders do each spring. They test in reading and math. 4th grade also tests in language mechanics. 5th also tests in social studies and on demand writing (it is combined w/ the 4th grade Lang mech score to give us an overall writing score). Students' scores fall into 4 categories: novice (earns 0 points), apprentice (earns 1/2 point), proficient (this is right on the level we want all students to score and they receive 1 point) and distinguished (for those who show most outstanding score). The combination of proficient and distinguished scores is used in many calculations. Overall we are still considered a "needs improvement" school but we are continuing to improve so also classified as "progressing". Overall we moved from 2013-14 score of 61.4 to 65.5 (67.2 was the cut off for proficient-we were so close!) As we've begun to analyze these scores we are making plans to strengthen our core instruction and supports for those who need them as well as challenge our more capable learners!

International DOT Day! Sept.15th
Bridgeport Students participated in International DOT Day this year when we celebrated the importance of making your mark on the world and making it matter. Our kids enjoyed reading the book
by Peter H. Reynolds, getting inspired by the The Dot Song, and making their own mark through their art work. See our International Dot Day slide show to view great pictures of our Bridgeport Tigers making their mark!

4th Grade Bluegrass Greensource Project
4th grade student s worked with a representative from Bluegrass Greensource to learn about Litter and the impact it has on our watershed areas. Since Bridgeport is build on a watershed area, it was particularly interesting to students as they worked in groups to pick up litter from the grounds surrounding the school.
Grandparents Day 2015!
BPE welcomed Grandparents and hosted them for lunch this week on September 15th and 16th. We are so glad that so many grandparents were able to join us in celebrating the important role they play in the lives of our students.
International Literacy Day! September 8th
BPE students and staff celebrated International Literacy Day on September 8th. Students learned about the importance role that literacy has in changing lives and helped to celebrate with others to bring global awareness to the value of learning how to read. Kindergarten and first grade students made book chains to celebrate important books in their lives. Second and third grade students made reading graffiti bulletin board paper displays about what reading is. Fourth and fifth grade students watched a video about how reading changed lives and wrote journal reflections about how their life had been changed by reading. BPE students and staff really came together to highlight the important role that reading plays in our everyday lives.
