2019-2019 Battle of the Books lists!

2018-2019 Battle of the Books Available! NEW-3rd grade Battle of the Books!

Battle of the Books is a 4th and 5th grade reading competition.
Students choose from a grade level list of high quality literature. They read as many of the books as they can by early Spring. A quiz is given to all students about the books. The students in each class with the 6 highest scores become the class team.

The classes in each grade play each other in a bracketed double-elimination tournament. Rules are based on the Kentucky Governor's Cup Academic Team Quick Recall rules. A buzzer scoring system is used as students ring in when they know an answer. The winning class team becomes the Peaks Mill Elementary School winner for their grade.

Teachers and the library media specialist choose the 6 best competitors from all classes in the grades. These students become the school's superstar team and play against their grade group winners from other schools in a special District Battle of the Books Tournament held during the last few weeks of school. Other participating schools are Elkhorn Elementary, Hearn Elementary, Collins Lane Elementary, Bridgeport Elementary, and Westridge Elementary. The school that wins the district takes the coveted plaque home to their school for the following school year.
NEW this year-3rd grade Battle of the Books! This will be a smaller version of the 4th/5th grade competition. There are 10 books on the list and we will only have a school compettion.
