Imagine America Foundation

KSU Scholarships

Seniors interested in attending Kentucky State University next year should stop by the Guidance Office for a complete list of their Academic Scholarship Program. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and are renewable for subsequent semesters when criteria are met. 

Cincinnati Christian University Esports

Are you interested in attending Cincinnati Christian University?  The CCU Esports Scholarship program has many scholarships availalbe to attend up to full tuition.  Requirements for scholarship are: minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher and minimum scores on one of the following standardized tests - ACT 16 or higher (14 in English) or SAT 890 or higher (19 in Writing & Language).  More information available at https://www.CCUathletics.com 

Ben Laslie Memorial FFA Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund was established in April 2011 by the Kentucky County Judge/Executive Association to honor Ben Laslie's dedication to the FFA organization and its members.  Applicant must be a current member of FFA, have a 3.0 gpa or above; pursuing a post-secondary degree at a college, university, or vocational college; show leadership skills; demonstrated a willingness to be involved in extracurricular FFA activities.  Applications are available from their local FFA advisor or the Guidance Office.  Applications are due Monday, April 22, 2019 to Mr. Douglas.

KY Chi Chapter - Jennie Whitaker Scholarship

This scholarship is for a female student graduating from high school that plans to major in the field of education.  Applications are available in the guidance office and are due April 23, 2019.

Meridian Sun Lodge No 26 Awards

The MSL College Assistance Award and the Derwood Thomas Memorial College Assistance Award applications are available in the guidance office.  Applicants must be 2019 Franklin County resident; not an immediate family member of a lodge member; must be a 2019 graduating high school senior; have a minimum 2.5 GPA.  Completed application must be mailed by April 25, 2019.

Switzer Ruritan Club - Buddy Lewis Memorial Scholarship

 Applications are now being taken for the annual $1000 Buddy Lewis Memorial Scholarship - available to one graduating senior from FRANKLIN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL.  Requirements include: 2 letters of recommendation, and a personal essay demonstrating what they have done or plan to do with their education in support of the Ruritan Mission "...dedicated to improving communities and building a better America..."  Detailed application requirements are available in the Guidance Office.  DEADLINE for application is Friday, April 29, 2019. 

Two Scholarships from Bluegrass Theatre Guild

The BTG is accepting applications for two scholarships this spring:
1. Peggy King Scholarship - A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a student involved in with a desire to continue his/her passion for theatre upon completion of high school.  This scholarship is given in memory of Peggy King, a former Guild member and Frankfort resident
2. Jeanette Dade Memorial Scholarship - A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who is planning to major in an Arts related area such as: set design, construction, art, lighting, sound, vocal or instrumental.  The recipient must be financially challenged to further his/her college education without scholarships.
These applications are available in the guidance office.  Applications must be received by April 30, 2019.

USDA/1890 National Scholars Program

This program offers scholarships to US citizens who are seeking a bachelor's degree at one of the nineteen 1890 Historically Black Land-Grant Institutions in any field of study in agriculture, food, natural resource sciences or other related disciplines.  Deadline to apply is April 30, 2019.  For more information on the program go to: https://www.outreach.usda.gov/education/1890

Hiram Lodge Past Masters Scholarship

Scholarships are being offered by the Hiram Lodge #4 F. & A.M.  Criteria includes school and community involvement; achievements and recognitions; curriculum, GPA, test scores; and financial need.   Three recipients will be selected from submitted applications.  Application forms are available in the guidance office or at http://hiram4.org/scholarship/ and the deadline to return application is April 30, 2019

How to Become a Wildcat

Here are some updates from the UK Admissions Office that you may be interested in.
 
  • Important Dates:
    • Deadlines
      • Regular Decision Admission (UK Application, Common Application, or Coalition Application): February 15.
        • We will continue to accept applications after February 15, so please encourage your students to apply even after the regular decision deadline.
      • William C. Parker Diversity Scholarship Application: February 15
      • Housing Application:
        • Early Action Housing: February 15
        • Regular Decision Housing: May 1
      • “see blue.” U Orientation: May 1
    • Lewis Honors College: Decisions are announced by email on February 15.
    • Competitive Scholarships: Decisions are announced by letter and should be mailed around early March.
    • Financial Aid:  Package estimates are sent by mail and available in the student’s myUK portal about 4 weeks after FAFSA receipt.
  • Information for Applicants:
    • Admitted Students: They receive a booklet outlining next steps (setting up email, applying for housing, registering for orientation, etc.).
      • Once students are admitted to UK, they need to set up their UK email address because that is where their communication will route to, rather than their personal email address.
    • Fee Waivers: We waive the application fee for all students with economic need.  Most students have documentation on file with us if they qualify for an ACT/SAT test waiver or are eligible for FRPR.  Any of that documentation will be accepted for fee waivers. 
  • Events:
    • Admitted Student Days: From February 15 to April 22, we will be hosting Admitted Student Days on campus. These visits include a presentation about next steps for admitted students, a panel of current UK students, campus tour, meeting with the academic colleges, and an optional visit with the Lewis Honors College. We will continue to offer twice daily tours on weekdays.
    • Merit Weekend: High-achieving admitted students are invited to attend an early orientation in March and register for their classes before even current UK students. The event is called Merit Weekend and eligible students will receive a mailed invitation.
    • May Day Open House: May 10 is this year’s date for May Day, an open house event for sophomores and juniors interested in UK.
  • Staffing:
    • Our office has added a new recruiter! Chaquenta Neal is our Assistant Director of Admissions for Diversity Recruitment. She works with students from any geographic region, so please feel free to connect your students with her if they would like to speak with her about campus resources and organizations for underrepresented students, questions regarding the William C. Parker diversity scholarship program, or anything else.

KY Boys and Girls State

Juniors who possess qualities such as leadership, honesty, cooperativeness and participate in school or community service, who are interested in government can apply to attend Kentucky Boys State which will be held June 2-7  or American Legion Auxiliary Kentucky Girls State which will be held June 9-14, 2019. Brochures/applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline to apply is May 1.

C.O.C.O. Nursing Scholarship

The Capital Ovaniran Cancer Organization is offering the Jerri Heltzel Robinson Memorial Nursing Scholarship of $2,000 to provide financial assistance to a deserving nursing student who is a resident of Franklin, Anderson, Owen, Shelby, Scott of Woodford counties.  Applications are available by contacting the C.O.C.O. Scholarship Committee at PO Box 1762, Frankfort, KY 40601. Application deadline is May 1, 2019. 

Whitaker Bank - Paul Gray Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is open to graduates of Franklin County who intend to enroll in an accredited college, and work towards a degree in business, agriculture, or a related field, ie. Marketing, Accounting, Chemistry, etc.  The total scholarship is $2,500.  GPA must be met annually to maintain the scholarship.  Application forms are available in the guidance office and the deadline to apply is May 1, 2019

Franklin County Homemakers Association

The FCHA is pleased to announce their $500 scholarship to be awarded to a student majoring in FAMCO, AG, or a related field.  Applicant must be a resident of Franklin County, but is not required to attend a Kentucky school.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Completed applications  must be received by the Franklin Co Extension Office before May 1, 2019 @ 4:30 p.m.

East Frankfort Kiwanis Scholarship

This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who will be entering as a freshman in college Fall 2019.  Selection is based on: school and community involvement; achievements and recognitions; academic success and standaridized test scores; and financial need.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Application deadline is May 3, 2019. 

Mike Mueller District 3 Scholarship

Any Franklin County High School student living in the 3rd District with a  3.0 GPA or above and a strong belief in community service can apply for  this $500 scholarship.  Applications are available in the Guidance  Office.  Deadline to apply is May 3, 2019.

David Lee Martin, Jr Scholarship

This $1000 scholarship is again available to Franklin County High School seniors.  A personal essay is required, along with a copy of transcript, current report card and test scores.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Application deadline is May 10, 2019.

John Harnice Scholarship

The John Douglas Harnice Memorial Scholarship is available in the Guidance Office.  John graduated from FCHS in 1980 winning numerous academic rewards and being a star athlete.  Deadline to apply is May 10, 2019.

TransCanada Scholarships

The TransCanada belief is that helping students succeed helps communities succeed.  This scholarship program was created based on an understanding that support for education is not only important to business, but also to communities.  Last year 450 scholarships were awarded to student from 298 different communities across North America.  Criteria is focused on leadership skills and community involvement as well as academic performance.  Interested applicants may visit  https://www.tcscholarhips.com/us  and the deadline to apply is May 17, 2019. 

B. Davis Scholarship

The creators of the "Student Award Search Aid" website are offering a scholarship 2017 which can be found at  http://www.studentawardsearch.com/scholarships.htm .  You can learn more about applying for scholarships on the website as well.    Scholarship is for $1,000.    Deadline for applications is May 24, 2019.

Franklin County Conservation Scholarship

Ag students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and planning to major in agriculture are encouraged to apply for the Conservation of Natural Resources Scholarship which is available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline is June 1, 2019. 

Abbott and Fenner Scholarship

To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay describing your educational career and life goals and explain your plan for achieving these goals including your degree/major, why you selected it, and how this will help you achieve you goals.  The website is  http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm and the application deadline is June 14, 2019.

Classroom to Classroom Scholarship

This year, Education.com is awarding a $5,000  college scholarship to a high school senior interested in pursuing a career in teaching.  The scholarship is called The Classroom to Classroom Scholarship. Applicants must: be a US citizen or Permanent Resident; have a minimum GPA of 3.0; be accepted as a full time student for the 19-20 academic year; intend to pursue an Education or closely related degree; proof of strong academic performance, leadership, and community service.  Application deadline in June 30, 2019.  For more details and application: https://www.education.com/scholarships/

Horse Farm Workers' Educational Assistance

This Assistance Fund provides scholarship assistance toward tuition only to applicants whose parent have worked full-time on a central Kentucky Thoroughbred horse farm.  Scholarships are awarded based on need, merit, and a personal interview.  Several $15,000 renewable scholarships are available for first generation college attendees, but applicants must contact Muffy Stuart at mstuart727@msn.com or call 859-269-1719 by January 20, 2019.
